Things to Consider in Building a Chicken Coop

Any proposed and projected business will require ample amount of time to think things through. It is very important that no detail, big or small, is missed. After all, this is some amount of money you are going to risk, and it is mainly up to you to make the business work and your money grow.

In the chicken business, one of the things that get top priority apart from getting the animals themselves is their living conditions. You must provide them with good and stable chicken coops.

Here are some of the top things to consider when making your chicken coop plans:

·         Size – the size of your coop should be proportional to the size of your flock. It should have enough space to accommodate each of your chickens from chick to adulthood until they are ready for harvest.

·         Heat and Insulation – especially during the early days of your chickens, the temperature of your coop must be ideal for your chickens. You don’t want your flock freezing to death nor dying from dehydration due to too much heat.

·         Sanitation – Chickens poop. All the time. After every meal. On top of that, chicken feeds have a strong odor and could make a real mess. Your coop design must be able to address these needs. A poorly sanitized chicken coop could be dangerous for both humans and animals as it could attract flies and be breeding grounds for harmful bacteria.

·         Feed and Water – Your coop must have a good plan on water and feed. There should be a system and venue for feeding and water supply in that your chickens never run out of water and the food will be 1) accessible to the chickens, and 2) the feed does not make a mess after.

Careful consideration of every detail and intensive planning is key to the success of any business. Your chicken farm need not be a six- or seven-digit venture for you to give it enough planning.
